Logline After a decade of rehabilitation, a 50-year-old truck driver in a desperate search for a permanent house tries to reconnect with his siblings for the sake of his young family. As painful family issues still lying underneath emerge, a sudden terminal illness forces him to set things right before his impending death.
Synopsis After spending 10 years since he overcame drug addiction, CHIU (50), a truck driver in Hong Kong, finally establishes his own family with wife LI (35), an illiterate from China, and a son LOK LOK (7) who has hyperactivity disorder. One day, the owner of his tiny house increases the rental fee making it unaffordable for him. Chiu had applied for government housing 5 years ago but without any progress on it so far. Meanwhile, Lok Lok cannot catch up with schoolwork and the stress to educate Lok Lok leads Li to go back to her hometown.
An exhausted Chiu, who had an estranged relationship with his siblings because of his drug addiction problems, feels shameful of his past actions and decides to reconnect with them for help. He gives a call to his sister, PO (58), a widowed but devout Buddhist, who has always been Chiu’s support throughout his dark times. She agrees to take care of his son occasionally. Chiu also reconnects with his other siblings. As the siblings’ lives cross each other again, painful family issues still lying underneath emerge.
Meanwhile, Chiu is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. A desperate and increasingly frail Chiu fights with his elder brother to get back his father’s house but fails. After three months and just two days upon receiving the housing acceptance letter with Po’s help, Chiu dies. Po helps Li to renovate her new flat. During housewarming dinner, as all of Chiu’s siblings and their family gather, Lok Lok plays a song to his dad in front of everyone.
